Federal Mid-term Election November 3, 2026

The Federal Mid-term Elections will be Tuesday, November 3rd. Here are the basics:

• This is mid-term because it is halfway through the president’s four-year term.

• Republicans control both chambers of Congress. They hold a 53–45 majority in the Senate. In the House, Republicans have a 218-212 majority, with four vacancies.

• Thirty-three of the 100 US Senate seats are up for election and an additional two are special elections. Wisconsin Senators Tammy Baldwin and Ron Johson are NOT up for election.

• All 435 members of the House of Representatives are up for election. Glen Grothman represents Manitowoc County. He is opposed by Democrat Brad Smith.  We will try to post links to debates as they become available.

Wisconsin Senate and Assembly Election November 3, 2026

ASSEMBLY

All 99 seats in the Wisconsin State Assembly are up for election. Republicans hold 54 seats and Democrats 45.

The boundaries of districts have changed. Manitowoc County is divided up. Be sure to check who represents you here. Enter your address at the top.

• District 25, which is Two Rivers and Manitowoc, is currently represented by Paul Tittl (R). Opposing him is Christopher Able (D).

• District 3, which is the Valders area, is currently represented by Ron Tusler (R ). He is opposed by Michael Goodman (D).

• District 2, which is the northern part of Manitowoc County, is represented by Shae A. Sortwell (R). Opposing him is Alicia Saunders (D).

SENATE

There are 33 State Senate seats in Wisconsin; 15 are held by Democrats and 18 by Republicans. Seventeen seats are up for election. The boundaries of districts have changed. District 1 has been represented by Sen. André Jacques, who is not running again. Nic Cravilion (R) is running against Mark Becker, who is Independent (not affiliated with a party.

District 9 has been represented by Sen. Devin LeMahieu, who is not running again.  Amy Binsfeld (R) is running against Christian Ellis, an Independent (not affiliated with a party.)

November 3 Referendums Again Propose Amending the Constitution

There are three referendums on the November 3rd ballot. LVWWI’s position is to Vote No on all three.

Anti-Equity Amendment: The most far-reaching is what LWV is calling the Anti-Equity Amendment. Because the language in this amendment is misleading and legally ambivalent, it is important the voters understand the far-reaching impact. Learn more.

Closure during State of Emergency: Another proposed constitutional amendment prohibits the State from closing places of worship during a declared state of emergency. Learn more. (Scroll down on page.)

Governor’s Line-item Veto: A third proposed amendment prohibits the governor from editing the state budget to increase taxes or fees with what is known as the partial or “line-item veto.” Learn more. (Scroll down on page.)

Are Constitutional Changes Needed?

Since 1848 the state constitution has been amended 150 times in 178 years. Proposing an amendment requires only a majority vote in two successive legislative sessions. Between 2000 and 2020, the constitution has been amended 10 times. Since 2023 the constitution has been amended 7 times with 3 additional amendments to be voted on in November of 2026.
