NOVEMBER 3RD REFERENDUMS

LVWWI’s position is to Vote No
on all three ballot referendums.​

Question 1:  Partial Veto. Shall section 10 (1)(c) of article V of the constitution be amended to prohibit the governor in exercising his or her partial veto authority from   creating or increasing or authorizing the creation of increase of any tax of fee?   Learn more. (Scroll down on page.)

Question 2:  Freedom to gather in places of worship during an emergency:  Shall section 18 article 1of the constitution which deals with religious liberty be amended to prohibit the state or a political subdivision of the state from ordering the closure of or forbidding gathering in places of worship in response to a state of emergency, including a public health emergency?  Learn more. Question 3: Governmental Entity discrimination prohibited:  Shall section 27 of article 1 of the constitution be created to prohibit governmental entities in the state from discriminating against or granting preferential treatment to any individual or group on the basis of race, sec, color ethnicity, or national origin in public employment, public education, public contracting, or public administration?  The most far-reaching is what LWV is calling the Anti-Equity Amendment. Because the language in this amendment is misleading and legally ambivalent, it is important the voters understand the far-reaching impact. Learn more.

ARE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS NEEDED?

 

Since 1848 the state constitution has been amended 150 times in 178 years. Proposing an amendment requires only a majority vote in two successive legislative sessions. Between 2000 and 2020, the constitution has been amended 10 times. Since 2023 the constitution has been amended 7 times with 3 additional amendments to be voted on in November of 2026.
