Current Projects and Committees
The work of LWVMC is done through committee work, both ad hoc and long-term. Email your interest to be contacted by the committee chairperson. Anyone can propose an issue for LWVMC to consider as a focus of its education and research efforts.
Affordable Workforce Housing – Researching the possibility of having a housing authority for Manitowoc County that would oversee and promote the development of low-income and affordable housing.
Environment – Currently working with several town boards on educating about the environmental impact of AI data centers. Successfully advocated for a one-year moratorium of the development of data centers to provide officials time to examine issues related to them.
Communications – Connects to US and State offices as well as the community through the newsletter, social media, the website, and online meetings.
Education – Has presented two public information session on the impact of private school vouchers on public education.
Great Decisions - In collaboration with the Manitowoc Public Library and other organizations, supports the annual six-week lecture series sponsored by the Foreign Policy Association.
Mental Health – Assesses the need for services in the community. Has advocated for the Drug Treatment Court and a Mental Health Court.
Observer Corps – Members attend local civic meetings and summarize in a written report. Read past reports.
Voter Services - Provides information on voter registration, holds candidate forums, and monitors legislation that can impact the voting process.

LWV Local Positions – Throughout the years, LWVMC has developed positions on local governance that guide its committee work. These are reviewed at the annual meeting and provide continuity of focus and consistency on issues.
