LOCAL ACTION ALERT:

Do you care where your tax dollars are going?

Do you support Transparency in our local Government?

Do you support our local public schools?

If you answered yes to any or all of these questions, please take the time to contact your Common Council Alders and let them know that you would like to see exactly where your tax money is going. Ask them to list the amount of public-school tax money that is going to private schools in Manitowoc separately on your tax bill.

Currently the tax bills include the voucher school costs in the Manitowoc Public Schools line on the bill, which is misleading. It is estimated that this year approximately 7 million of your school taxes (around 20%) will be going to private schools and the school district will need to levy taxes to pay for it.

Public schools present their budgets annually to the public, have open meetings, take public input, and their board of education meetings are open to the public and recorded for all to see. This 7 million dollars isn’t publicly accounted for.

The Manitowoc Common Council Meeting of the Whole is scheduled for Monday October 19th at 5:00 at the Manitowoc City Hall. Please attend the meeting and voice your opinion at this meeting during the public input time. Contact your Alderperson, email and phone provided below.
